Role and functions of Future Networks (FN)

Focus Areas:-

  • Future Network & Technology Development & Applications.
  • Broadband Network Policy Initiatives & Technology Solutions.
  • PPDR (Public Protection & Disaster Relief) Application.
  • Liaison with International Standardization Bodies/Forums ect, and Interface with DoT IR cell for International Coordination.
  • Coordination in respect of the following :
    • National Working Groups/Study, Groups and their Contribution to International Standardization Bodies.
    • PMA (Preferred Market Access)
    • TEMC (Telecom Equipment Manufacturer Council)
    • TSDSI (Telecom Standards Development Society of India)
    • Coordination with Industry Association such as TSDSM, TEMA etc.
  1. ii) Duties of officers and employees:

DDG (FN): DDG (FN) is responsible for overall activities, management and administration of the Future Network Division.The main work areas of the Future Networks Division are as follows:-

  • (i). Future Network & Technology Developments & Applications.
  • (ii). Broadband Network Policy Initiatives & Technology solutions
  • (iii). PPDR (Public Protection & Disaster Relief) Applications
  • (iv). Standards & Manufacturing Coordination ( S &MC)

The above work areas are further handled by the groups headed by Director (FN-I)/Director (FN-II) & Dir (S&MC).The main activities include:

  1. Formulation of Annual Action Plan and distribution of activities to the group members.
  2. Approval of various documents such as divisional procedure, white papers/study papers, minutes of meetings, Monthly/Quarterly/Annual reports etc.
  3. Coordination, finalization and monitoring of various activities.
  4. Formation of committees under NWGs etc.
  5. Timely Furnishing of technical inputs and attending the meetings with various other departments/ organizations, viz, DoT, BSNL, DeITy, MTNL, C-DoT, TRAI, ISO, and carrying out technical interactions with ITU, APT, TRAI, TDSAT, DST, DSIR, DIT, TDB, NDMA, BIS, TCoE and other Telecom Stakeholders, as and when required.
  6. Participation in & contribution to ITU Study Groups.
  7. Representation in various technical committees such as DCC, Validation committees etc.
  8. Completion of all activities assigned to ‘FN’ Division.
  9. General administration of the Division.
  10. Liaison with International Standardization Bodies/Forum etc.
  11. Interaction with DoT IR cell for International Coordination
  12. Coordination with National Working Groups/ Study Groups and their contribution to International Standardization Bodies
  13. Coordination on PMA (Preferential market Access) & IPR related activities.
  14. Coordination with TEMC ( Telecom Equipment manufacturer Council)
  15. Coordination with TSDSI ( Telecom Standards Development Society of India)
  16. Coordination with Industry Association such as TSDSM, TEMA etc.

Director (FN-I)/Director (FN-II):

Director (FN-I) & Director (FN-II) are responsible  for management & administration of the activities of FN Division such as finalization of Technical guidelines/documents/study paper related to- Future Network & Technological Developments & Applications, Broadband Network Policy Initiatives & Technology solutions, PPDR (Public Protection & Disaster Relief) & its applications. The activities of Director (FN-I)/Director (FN-II)  include:

  1. Convener of various Committees and Forums constituted from time to time & preparation of various Technical guidelines/document/study items etc.
  2. Preparation of draft Annual action Plan based on activities of the group.
  3. Organizing approval of Annual Action Plan(AAP)
  4. Co-ordination, monitoring of various activities and making contributions to facilitate timely completion of various targets as per AAP.
  5. Co-ordination in formation & conducting meeting of various committees & Forums.
  6. Attending Sub-DCC meetings of other divisions.
  7. Assisting DDG (FN) in various activities related to Group.
  8. Training
  9. Inputs to DoT/WPC on Future Network, Technology, Applications, PPDR & Broadband.
  10. Member of various technical /validation committees.
  11. Participation in & contribution to ITU Study Groups.
  12. Preparation of Technical papers/presentation in various technical forums related to Future Network/technology.

Director (S &MC):-

Director(S&MC) is responsible for management & administration of the activities of FN Division and making contributions to facilitate timely completion of various targets as per AAP. Also, responsible for coordination activities for timely finalization of Technical guidelines/documents/study items related to PMA & coordination w.r.t. TSDSI/ TSDM/TEMA/ National Working Groups/ Study Groups and their contribution to International Standardization Bodies etc.The coordination activities of Director (SM &C)  include:

  1. Coordination with reference to PMA ( Preferential market Access) & IPR related activities
  2. Liaison with International Standardization Bodies/Forum etc.
  3. Interaction with DoT IR cell for International Coordination
  4. Coordination with National Working Groups/ Study Groups and their contribution to International Standardization Bodies
  5. Coordination with TEMC ( Telecom Equipment manufacturer Council)
  6. Coordination with TSDSI ( Telecom Standards Development Society of India)
  7. Coordination with Industry Association such as TSDSM, TEMA etc.
  8. Assisting DDG (FN) in various activities related to Group.

ADG (FN-I)/ADG (FN-II)/ADG(S&MC): ADG (FN-I)/ ADG (FN-II)/ ADG(S&MC) are responsible for the activities and task assigned to them from time to time which includes:-

  • Study & Preparation of Draft Documents.
  • Compilation of minutes of the meetings.
  • Circulation of Drafts
  • Making arrangements for meetings
  • Preparation of brief for technical inputs to DoT, BSNL, MTNL, etc. for items related to network division.
  • Preparation of various reports such as monthly/quarterly/annually/RFD/MIS/ draft QMS etc.
  • General upkeep of the group.
  • Assisting respective Director (FN-I/FN-II) & Director (S&MC) in various activities.
  • Inputs on Training.
  • Coordination/updation w.r.t. regular updation of TEC website related to FN Division

AD (FN-I/II/III/IV/V/VI/VIII/VIII) or AD (S&MC-I/II), -Vacant

AD is responsible for the activities and task assigned to them from time to time which includes:-

  • Preparation of Pre-Draft/Technical Inputs
  • Ensuring logistics/delivery of communication to the destination
  • Maintenance of Files/ records/stores
  • Weeding out of old records
  • Timely scrapping of obsolete items
  • Any other work assigned by respective ADG (FN-I/FN-II)/ ADG(S&MC) from time to time.
