Power and Duties of T Division

Role and Functions

Transmission Division is responsible for formulation of Generic and Interface requirements in the areas of Optical transport and Optical fibre cables etc. as mentioned below:

  • Optical Fibre Cable
  1. Optical fibre cables (Metal-free and Armoured).
  2. Aerial optical fibre cable (Metal-free and Armoured).
  • High-count ribbon optical fibre cable (Metal-free and Armoured).
  1. Non-zero dispersion shifted optical fibre cable (Metal-free and Armoured).
  2. Optical fibre cables for FTTx.
  3. Raw materials used in the manufacturing of optical fibrecablesOpticalfibre Distribution and Management Systems for Ribbon and Non-Ribbon types of cables.
  • Optical fibre cable accessories, viz., Optical Fibre Splice Closure, Termination Box, Fibre Distribution Frame, Optical Fibre Jumpers, Installation accessories for aerial optical fibre cable, Installation Tools.

  Transport Equipment

  1. PDH Optical line transmission equipment, viz., 34 Mbps and 140 Mbps; 2/34 Mbps and 2/140 Mbps OptimuxSystems and Optical Amplifiers.
  2. 2 Mbps Primary Mux.
  • SDH family – STM-1/4/16/64.
  1. Cross-connect equipment family – 64 Kb/s, 4/3/1 SDH based, 4/4 SDH based
  2. 40 channel/80 channel DWDM long-haul/very long-haul, and 16/40 channel Metro DWDM systems.
  3. 8 channel CWDM.
  • Digital Loop Carrier – narrowband/ broadband.
  • Transmission synchronisation equipment.
  1. Test and Measuring Instruments.
  2. PDH / SDH Analyser, WDM Analyser, DTA, Optical power meter, Optical fibre splicing machines and accessories (Ribbon and Non-Ribbon types), Optical Light Source, Optical Time Domain Reflectometer, Optical Talk Set, Optical Spectrum Analysers, Optical Dispersion Analyser, Ethernet Traffic Analyser.

  Other Scope of work and activities:            

Transmission Division is also responsible for

  1. Certification and other activities, in the areas of Optical Transport and Optical fibre cables etc.
  2. Setting up of lab for NGN Test-bed for testing and certification for products and networks relating to Optical Transport.
  3. Technology approval to C-DoT for transmission products. Planning and Maintenance Guidelines for Optical Transport Systems.
  4. Furnishing technical inputs to various other departments and organizations, viz., DoT, BSNL, MTNL, C-DoT, TRAI,; and carrying out technical interactions with ITU, APT, TRAI, TDSAT, DST, DSIR, DIT, TDB, NDMA, BIS and Other Telecom Stakeholders. 
  1. ii) Duties of officers and employees:

 DDG (T): DDG (T)is responsible for overall activities, management and administration of the T Division. Main activities include:

  1. Formation and approval of Annual Action Plan, distribution of activities.
  2. Approval of various documents, minutes of meetings, etc
  3. Coordination, finalization and monitoring of development of various documents
  4. Formation of Sub-DCC, DCC and MF committees
  5. Timely furnishing technical inputs to and attending meetings in various other departments and organizations, viz., DoT, BSNL, MTNL, C-DoT, TRAI, and carrying out technical interactions with ITU, APT, TRAI, TDSAT, OST, DSIR, DIT, TDB, NDMA, BIS. and other Telecom Stakeholders, as and when required
  6. Testing, evaluation and Field Trials of TransmissionOptical network to be inducted in Indian telecom network
  7. Timely Completion of all activities assigned to T Division
  8. Preparation of Implementation plan for testing and certification
  9. General administration of the division

 Director(T): Director (T) is responsible for overall activities management and administration of the T Division. Main activities include:

  1. Coordination and monitoring of development of variousdocuments(GRs/IRs)
  2. Timely furnishing technical inputs to and attending meetings with various other department and organizations, viz., DoT, BSNL, MTNL, C- DoT, TRAI and carrying out technical interactions with ITU, APT, TRAI, TDSAT, DST, DSIR, DIT, TDB, NDMA, BIS, and other Telecom Stakeholders, as and when required.
  3. Testing evaluation and Field Trials of external plan network battery and power plant equipment and passive optical network etc, to be inducted in Indian Telecom network
  4. Timely Completion of all activities assigned to T Division
  5. Preparation of Implementation plan for mandatory testing
  6. General administration of the division.

  1. Coordination and monitoring of development of various documents. (GRs/IRs)
  2. Preparing Pre-DCC draft of GRs/IRs
  3. Preparing agenda for Sub-DCC and MF committees
  4. Testing evaluation and field trials of Transmission Optical network etc. to be inducted in Indian Telecom network
  5. Timely Completion of all activities assigned to T Division

 ADET(T): Main activities involved

  1. Preparing Pre-DCC draft of GR/IRs
  2. Preparing agenda for Sub-DCC and MF committees
  3. Testing evaluation and Field Trails of Optical network etc, to be inducted in Indian Telecom network
