i. Role and Functions of RTECs

Role of RTECs 

RTECs are responsible for activities related to evaluation and testing for certification of telecom products / equipments against GR/IR of TEC. There are four RTECs one each for North, South, East and West each headed by a Deputy Director General. An Applicant is required to approach the respective RTEC within whose jurisdiction its manufacturing plant is situated. In the case of traders/dealers/local office of foreign telecom equipment, it may approach the RTEC within whose jurisdiction its head office is located. 

Functions: 

  • Registration of application for Certification & Approval of Telecom Products against GR/IR of TEC or Applicant’s own specifications.
  • Carrying out Testing of Telecom Products/ services against the specifications.
  • Collection of feedback on various products, specifications from the vendor community including manufacturers and traders, for necessary examination and action.
  • Technical support to TEC HQ in matters relating to telecom testing & certification policies.
  • Sale of GR/IR documents.

ii. Duties of officers and employees:

 DDG (WR) TEC: DDG is responsible for overall activities, management and administration of the RTEC in western region comprising of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Daman & Diu and Dadar& Nagar Haveli. Main activities include: 

  1. Formation and approval of Annual Action Plan, distribution of activities.
  2. Approval of various documents, minutes of meetings etc
  3. Coordination, finalization and monitoring of development of various documents
  4. evaluation and Field Trials of telecom products to be inducted in Indian telecom network
  5. Timely Completion of all activities assigned to RTEC.
  6. Preparation of Implementation plan for testing and certification
  7. General administration of the division

Director (WR) TECDirector is responsible for overall activities management and administration of the RTEC in western region comprising of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Daman & Diu and Dadar& Nagar Haveli. Main activities include:

  3. Timely Completion of all activities assigned to RTEC.
